Introducing Need The Loo — Coventry’s Campaign for Better Toilets

Hands pin a "Join Us on World Toilet Day" flyer on a corkboard, surrounded by other notices.

Join the First Need The Loo Gathering on World Toilet Day, 19 November 2025. Coventry’s Need The Loo campaign is bringing together businesses, campaigners and community partners to celebrate progress and spark action to shape the future of toilet access in our city.

Finding a toilet in Coventry city shouldn’t be a challenge but for many people, it is. From families with young children to older residents and people with health conditions, poor toilet access affects how long people stay, where they shop and even whether they visit at all.

That’s why local residents came together to create Need The Loo. A community-led campaign supported by Connecting for Good.

“Businesses benefit when people feel welcome and able to stay longer.”

Join us at the first Need The Loo Gathering to hear how local people, businesses and organisations are working with Grapevine’s Connecting for Good, Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire, Colostomy UK, the Bladder and Bowel Organisation, Coventry Central Hall, the British Toilet Association, and Coventry City Council to make our city centre more inclusive.

“We need to talk about toilets as part of inclusion — not just for one group, but for everyone.”

At the Gathering, you can:

  • Celebrate the campaign so far — hear what local people, businesses and organisations have achieved together

  • Get updates on collaborations — learn how community groups, charities and Coventry City Council are working together

  • Hear from local people with lived experiences — understand the real impact of toilet access in Coventry

  • Discover what’s happening nationally — see how Coventry’s campaign connects to broader efforts across the UK

Together, we’re working to make Coventry a more welcoming and accessible place for everyone and we want local businesses to be part of it.

You can:

  1. Make your toilets more visible or accessible

  2. Become a Toilet Champion and be recognised for good facilities

  3. Pledge your support for better toilet access for customers and employees

  4. Join us on World Toilet Day (19 November) for the first Need The Loo Gathering and find out about our new Toilet Champion Award

  5. Help shape Coventry into a city that’s welcoming and accessible for everyone

“We all need the loo. But some of us need it more urgently, more often, or with more care.”
