Coventry’s Fight for Toilet Dignity Need The Loo Campaign

Updated: Oct 10

Standing up for everyone’s right to access a loo — with dignity

For too long, toilet access has been treated as an afterthought. Yet for thousands of people in Coventry, from older residents and parents to people with medical conditions, disabilities, and carers, the lack of public toilets is a daily barrier to participation, independence, and dignity.

That’s why the Need The Loo campaign is calling for change. And on World Toilet Day, Wednesday 19 November, we’re bringing together residents, campaigners, and decision-makers for a powerful community gathering at Central Methodist Hall.

A people-powered movement for dignity

The campaign began with simple conversations: people sharing what it’s like to go out in Coventry and not know where the nearest loo is, or whether it will be accessible, safe, or even open. Those stories sparked a movement.

Through listening, research, and collaboration with local and national partners, the campaign team with the support of Connecting For Good, discovered that Coventry is far from alone. Access to toilets is a national issue and one that affects health, well-being, and equality.

What’s happening on World Toilet Day

Join us for an afternoon of stories, insights, and action as we:

  • Hear real stories from Coventry residents.

  • Learn about grassroots action already shaping change locally.

  • Discover Coventry’s new Toilet Award: a community standard for dignity.

  • Hear from national speakers and partners championing toilet rights.

  • Join the Need The Loo Alliance: a people-powered network for toilet access.

  • Meet charities that are supporting people to live well and stay connected.

Why it matters

Toilet access isn’t just about convenience. It’s about who gets to take part in public life: who can travel, meet friends, or attend events without fear or discomfort. It’s about dignity, equality, and belonging.

Be part of the change

Wednesday 19 November, 2 – 4 pm, Central Methodist Hall, Coventry

Let’s use this global day of action to make a difference right here in Coventry. Together, we can make sure no one is left behind when they need the loo.
